Here's what happened to me this past weekend... I was talking with this hot Russian chick at the dance club and things seemed to be going well. I made her laugh a few times. She didn't know what the word affectionate meant so I showed her by hugging her twice.

She invited me to sit down with her, she was touching me, but then she was like "I'm going to go dance." So I was like, OK. And then it fizzled from there.

I didn't really understand that. I think she wanted me to dance with her. I bumped into her again later on but she was completely unreceptive.

It was weird. She went dancing and left me at the table with her other Russian friend whom I tried to make conversation with but that was like trying to break into the Kremlin.

Any tips for what to do in that kind of situation? Did I do something wrong that I can fix for next time?

Something went haywire while you were trying to show her your awesomeness. She was beginning to get attracted to you but then something happened that made her go, "Um, no."

From your description she was into you at first. Perhaps she liked your looks and your vibe. But then after a while of talking with you she stopped liking you. This could mean

1 - you were boring
2 - she has the attention-span of a drunk mosquito
3 - she discovered that you are not compatible with her
or
4 - she misconstrued something you said or did as being offensive. Like when you made that ignorant Russian joke. You know, the one where you ask if her vagina is Communist and if that means everyone gets to share it equally.

There is always a big risk for miscommunication between two humans. Double that risk when it's between two strangers. Triple that risk when it's between two different genders. Now multiply it by 100 when the other person has a different language AND culture!

Most likely she misunderstood something you said and took it the wrong way. I've seen this happen a lot with sarcasm. It's hard to figure out if the other person is being serious when you don't know them well and especially if they have a different culture.

Another possibility is that she's a hot chick in a dance club with many options and as soon as you showed something slightly displeasing to her, she decided to shift her attention to other dudes.

AVERAGE LOOKING GIRL: Hey, how is your night?
YOU: Some girls are so rude! I was talking with this girl when suddenly she leaves mid-conversation and now she's basically ignoring me!
AVERAGE LOOKING GIRL: Wow, that's messed up.
YOU: Yeah! Why would someone do... oh I think that big breasted girl smiled at me! See ya!

Or maybe your Russian hottie was expecting you to dance with her and when you didn't, she thought it meant you didn’t like her.

People have lots of expectations but unfortunately these are not written on their foreheads. They should be, it would save lots of time!

There are many things that could have gone wrong. You really don't have enough information to draw a solid conclusion however here is the ONE THING that will help fix this problem in the future...
